The BankSA Amplify credit card stands out from other Australian credit cards by offering its members more reward options. With the Amplify card, you will be able to choose from Qantas points or a program which reward points for everything from gift cards to charitable donations. Our detailed review should help you decide whether this is the card for you.
Benefit of the Card’s Best Features?
The main draw of the BankSA Amplify card is that it allows members to pick between two rewards programs. The first option is Amplify Qantas where you will get 1 Qantas Frequent Flyer point for each $2 spent. If you aren’t already in the Qantas Frequent Flyer Program, don’t worry. The normal membership fee will be waived for new BankSA Amplify cardholders. Your other reward option offers much more flexibility. It is called Amplify Rewards and gives you 1 point for each $1. You will be able to redeem points for things like gift cards, donations to charity, and flights.
As an extra incentive for signing up for the card, Bank SA are offering a special promotional deal of 0.99% p.a. for 6 months on balance transfers. While not the longest balance transfer period available, it can help you get your debt under control before the remaining balance reverts to 18.74% p.a.
This card offers all the features which you would expect from a top credit card. You get 55 interest free days on your purchases so long as you pay the closing balance on time. You can expect the best protection with Falcon Fraud 24/7 monitoring. The late and over limit fees with the Amplify card are reasonable and they only get applied once during a billing cycle. You also get to add one more cardholder for free.
Are There Any Drawbacks?
The BankSA Amplify credit card is far from the leader when it comes to the purchase rate. At 18.74% p.a., you will want to make sure that you are paying your bills on time! It is worth pointing out though that, while the Amplify card purchase rate is steep, it is better than what most reward credit cards are offering. Unfortunately, BankSA Amplify doesn’t have any promotional purchase rates to sweeten the deal.
You will want to avoid cash advances with this card, just like any other Australian card. The 20.74% p.a. takes place immediately, plus there’s 2% (or a minimum of $2.50) of the amount you take out.
There are some other minor drawbacks like the way there are no extra benefits like complimentary travel insurance or flight inconvenience insurance. And keep in mind that no credit card rewards program is as open as it seems – there is a lot of fine print about restrictions. There is also the annual fee to content with, which at $79 p.a. is about average compared to other rewards cards.
Who is it Suited for?
BankSA’s Amplify credit card is best suited for people who make frequent purchases with their credit cards and want to be rewarded for their spending and loyalty for sticking with the same bank. Since there is a wide range of rewards available, many people could benefit from the card. However, you should be the type of person who will pay back your debt quickly, ideally by the end of the month, as the purchase interest rate is rather high.
Who is Eligible?
To be eligible for this Amplify credit card, you must be at least 18 years old, a permanent resident or citizen of Australia, have a regular income and a good credit rating.
