The Westpac 55 Day Gold credit card offers you all the features of the standard 55 day card with the extra insurances. Go gold if you travel frequently or want the security of purchase cover or extended warranty insurance. And of course, interest rates and pleasingly low.
Benefit of the Card’s Best Features?
As the name suggests, the card gives you a longer 55 days to pay your balance off so you some extra breathing space if you need it. The condition though is that you pay your balance in full at the closing date of the statement each month. If you’re a responsible credit card user and regularly keep on top of your bills, this shouldn’t be a problem to you.
You get a low balance transfer interest rate for the first 6 months if you need a short breather, you get to choose between a Visa or MasterCard (high worldwide acceptance on both), a low minimum income is required to apply for the card and your annual fee is waived for the first year and will continue to be waived if you spend more than $15,000 in the year on your card. Interest rates are also competitive with purchases and cash advances charged at 19.59% p.a. and 21.49% p.a. respectively.
Insurances including international travel insurance, purchase security insurance, extended warranty insurance and transit accident insurance come complimentary with the card. This will benefit the traveller and those who appreciate that extra bit of assurance for their shopping. However, the travel insurance cover only kicks in when you use your card to purchase the tickets you are travelling on. The same is true of the purchase protection and extended warranty, both of which require the goods to have been purchased using your 55 Day Gold card in order to activate.
Lastly you get to enjoy the convenience of Visa payWave or MasterCard PayPass for purchases under $100. No pin, no signing, just wave or pass your card past the little terminal in participating stores for fast and hassle free shopping!
Are There Any Drawbacks?
There is no rewards program with this card and the minimum income $50,000 is quite high. There are quite a few small fees, especially on foreign currency transactions that can add up if you do travel a lot and continue to use the card regularly.
Who Would be Suited?
This card would benefit the person who could use the extra interest free days the card offers (as long as they make their payment in full at the end of it), who will use the insurances included and who earns over $50,000 p.a. This is a great all-round card with plenty of convenience and security features for someone looking for a quality credit card.
Who is Eligible?
To be eligible for this card you need to be over 18, an Australian resident and earn over $50,000 per year.
