In many ways, the Westpac Altitude credit card is one of the most unique offerings around. To start with, it is available from Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. This is not something that you see from most credit cards. When you add this flexibility to the ability to earn points and rewards with every dollar spent, it is easy to see why this card is sought after by so many. As a Money Magazine award winner (American Express) you cannot go wrong when you opt for this credit card.

Benefit of the Card’s Best Features?

From the very start you will see that the Westpac Altitude credit card is all about you. The first time you use your card, regardless of the reason, you are credited with 5,000 bonus Altitude points. This will get you off to a good start.

As you continue to use your card you will accumulate more points. You will earn 2 Altitude points for every $1 spent on the American Express card, and 1 Altitude point per $1 spent on a Visa or MasterCard. Either way, you can gather points for everyday purchases. Of course, these points can be redeemed for perks such as flights – hence the name. It’s important to note that there is no cap on the number of points you can earn. Also, there is no expiration date. You can hoard your points for as long as you want!

Other benefits include a cheap interest rate of 3.99% p.a. on balance transfers for up to 6 months; the ability to link two credit cards to one account; and paperless eStatements.

Are There Any Drawbacks?

On the downside, you will have to deal with slightly higher interest rates when you decide on the Westpac Altitude credit card. This includes 21.59% p.a. on cash advances, and a standard ongoing interest rate of 19.99% p.a. on all other purchases. There is also a $100 p.a. annual fee, which will negate the value of the points you earn. Essentially you have to spend more for there to be any real monetary gain.

Who is Eligible?

As long as you are 18 years of age and have a minimum income of $15,000, which is quite low, you should be eligible to apply and receive a Westpac Altitude credit card. When compared to other cards, this one has lenient eligibility requirements.

Who Would be Suited?

Any reward card that offers points like this one is perfect for travellers. No matter if you enjoy travelling for business or pleasure, you can use the points accumulated from purchases on your Westpac Altitude credit card. However, low eligibility requirements make this credit card a good choice for almost anybody.
