The Westpac Altitude Gold credit card is similar in many ways to its little brother, the standard Westpac Altitude credit card. However, there are many upgraded features that make this card a better choice – if you are eligible. Just like the basic Westpac Altitude credit card, this one is recognised as a Money Magazine award winner.

Benefit of the Card’s Best Features?

With your first purchase you will receive 10,000 bonus points. This is a nice start to what is sure to be an account that accumulates thousands of points over the course of a year. With the American Express version of the Westpac Altitude Gold credit card you will receive 2 points for every $1 spent. With the Visa or MasterCard version, you receive 1 point for every $1 spent. With no points cap or expiry, you can continue to save for as long as you want.

Although many people use their points for travel, there are other items you can cash them in for including: gift cards, high end appliances, and electronics among others.

Unlike the standard Westpac Altitude card, the Gold card offers many types of insurance coverage including: overseas travel insurance, transit accident insurance, purchase security insurance, and extended warranty insurance. Free overseas travel insurance is a particularly useful feature of the card, one that could save you a lot of money in the year and give you additional peace of mind.

Do you need help making travel arrangements? Do you have questions about your Westpac Altitude Gold credit card? If so, you have access to a 24/7 priority service line.

As is the case with the standard version of this card, the Altitude Gold card has a balance transfer deal offering 6 months at 3.99% p.a. on balances transferred to the card from your other non-Westpac and store cards.

Are There Any Drawbacks?

If there is one thing holding you back from applying for the Westpac Altitude Gold credit card it is sure to be the $150 p.a. annual fee. This is on the high side when compared to other gold level cards, and may not be something that you want to pay once per year – especially if you do not use your card very often. The other primary drawback is the 21.59% p.a. on cash advances and slightly higher than average 19.99% p.a. on purchases.

Who is Eligible?

To qualify for the Westpac Altitude Gold credit card you must have good credit, be at least 18 years of age, and have an annual income of $50,000 or more.

Who Would be Suited?

The Westpac Altitude Gold credit card is suited best for business professionals as well as frequent travellers. That being said, this reward card can be used by anybody who is simply interested in collecting points with each purchase. As long as you meet the eligibility requirements, have no issues paying the annual fee, and can pay off your balance each month so as to avoid negating the value of rewards with interest repayments, then you will agree, like most, that the benefits of the Westpac Altitude Gold credit card outweigh any of the drawbacks.
