The Westpac Earth Gold credit card is a step up from the standard Westpac Earth credit card. Although it shares many of the same features, when you opt for this card you will receive even more benefits. For a full review and comparison of its features and rates, read on.

Benefit of the Card’s Best Features?

With every dollar spent on your Westpac Earth Gold credit card you will earn reward points with the Qantas Frequent Flyer program. For the American Express version of the card, you will earn 1 point for every $1 spent. If you spend with the MasterCard version, though, you will only earn 0.5 points for every $1 spent. Clearly, the easiest way to get more rewards is to use the Amex wherever possible.

There is no cap on the number of points that you can accumulate, and the more you spend the more points you will earn. To increase the speed at which you earn points, you have the ability to add another person, such as a spouse or child, to your account. To make this simple, you will share one credit limit and one statement.

Are you interested in using your Westpac Earth Gold credit card for balance transfers? If so, this card’s balance transfer is a solid choice. For the first 6 months, your rate will be a low 0.99% p.a.

Although the interest rate on purchases can be high (see below), there are ways that you can save. By purchasing select Qantas products and services you are charged a much lower rate, instead of the standard 19.99% p.a. on purchases.

With Westpac’s Earth Gold card you receive several types of insurance – all for free. Coverage includes overseas travel insurance, transit accident insurance, purchase security insurance, and extended warranty insurance. This alone, used properly, can save you hundreds of dollars per year.

Are There Any Drawbacks?

A lot of people consider any annual fee a drawback. If this sounds like you, you may be disappointed by the $125 p.a. fee for the Westpac Earth Gold credit card. This is a step up from the standard Earth card’s annual fee, but not as high as the platinum version (as you would expect).

Interest rates on purchases are competitive with the broader, but still high. Expect a variable interest rate of 19.99% p.a. on purchases and 21.49% p.a. on cash advances.

Who is Eligible?

Are you over the age of 18 with an annual income of $50,000 or more? If so, and you have an above average credit score, you should qualify for the Westpac Earth Gold card. For all the features you get, these requirements are quite lenient.

Who Would be Suited?

Although anybody can use the card, there are two groups of people who can really benefit: frequent flyers and business professionals. If you travel by air on a regular basis, it makes good sense to use a credit card that allows you to accumulate frequent flyer miles for every dollar spent.

In closing, anybody who is interested in a card with loads of features, including a top tier frequent flyer program, should consider the Westpac Earth Gold credit card. Apply for yours today!
