If you’re a regular shopper at Woolworths or other Woolworths group stores (see below), you could earn some great points and bonuses on your purchases. You can earn up to 3 reward points for every dollar you spend and, if you’ve got enough points, every 4 months you’ll automatically be sent a shopping card for your spending pleasure.
Benefits of the Card’s Best Features?
Currently the main best features are for new customers who can enjoy a fairly low $49 p.a annual fee, a decent 5.99% p.a. rate on balance transfers for 6 months, and you can even choose the colour of your card!
The possibility of earning up to 3 points per $1 spent is good. Here’s the breakdown of what you’ll earn and the stores you can earn points in:
- 1 point per $1 spent on general purchases
- 2 points per $1 spent within participating Woolworths group stores which include: Woolworths, Big W, Dick Smith, Tandy, BWS, Safeway, Woolworths Liquor, Dan Murphy’s, Caltex/Woolworths fuel stations and more,
- 3 points per $1 spent on Select products purchased in-store at Woolworths Supermarkets & Everyday Mobile products purchased at Woolworths Supermarkets, BIG W, Woolworths liquor and BWS.
The Woolworths Everyday Money credit card is issued by HSBC Bank Australia so it’s got a reputable bank behind it. It has worldwide acceptance and a security chip which means it carries more sophisticated payment applications and protection against unauthorised card use.
You get access to Woolworths Credit Card Repayment Insurance, as well as to Mastercard PayPass (a convenient payment program that will allow you to just ‘Tap & Go’ your card wherever you see the PayPass sign with no need to wait, sign or enter a PIN for amounts that are $35 or less).
Lastly you can also have a free additional card holder and can even pay for your fuel at the pump instead of in store with epump at Caltex/Woolworths fuel stations if you’re looking to save that extra bit of time.
Are There Any Drawbacks?
The card has lots of handy little bonuses but a few little catches. Once all the new customer features wear off it’s fairly standard in many respects. Interest rates of 19.84% p.a. for purchases and 21.34% p.a. for cash advances are fairly standard but not great.
There are also some limitations on points earning and how far that can take you. For example, you can’t earn points on business expenses, interest free promotions, balance transfers and cash advances. You also have to earn 3,448 points to receive a minimum Shopping Card value of $20. That’s a lot of spending for 20 bucks and you’re only allowed to do it in Woolworths Group stores!
Who Would be Suited?
If you shop at loads of the Woolworths groups stores and spend enough to make good use of the points, the card could be worth your while in the long run. It would benefit the mid to high income earner more than the low and if you appreciate the little things like choosing the colour of your card, you might like the Woolworths Everyday Money Credit Card.
Who is Eligible?
You are eligible if you earn more than $49 p.a. (before tax), are over 18 and have a good credit rating and if your sole requirements and objectives in taking out the credit card are to obtain a general purpose transaction facility to facilitate your future purchases. You also have to declare that you don’t envisage any adverse change in your financial circumstances in the foreseeable future.
